Baler 2015 - Day 2

By Seyra Rico - 7:52 AM

Of course, Baler won't be complete without surfing so we all tried surfing. Imagine my surprise when I found out I can stand up on my first try! I wanted to stay and practice stirring my surfboard but all good things must come to an end, so after hours of paddling and standing up, we packed our bags, checked out and ate at a buffet lunch overlooking the sea then shopped for souvenirs.

I would like to go back during surf season (October to February) when the locals said the waves can reach up 20 feet. I also wanted to go to Zambales (or Baler!) and practice surfing after my internship ends this August. I instantly searched for surfing after I got back from Baler. It can be one of the things I will pursue, and hopefully, I will never give up on.

Where we stayed: Balud Camp

The staff is the best I've encountered. They made sure everything we needed was provided for, like laundry powder for our rash guards and clothes. It was their soft opening and they only have two villas for rent. They said it was always full. Kudos to Ate Karen!

My friends were good, too!

Hang loose

Can I make surfing a career? Together with dancing, activism and traveling. In Utopia, maybe. But now, I think I can make at least surfing work.

See you soon, Baler!
