GABRIELA is a proud member of ILPS, or International League of Peoples' Struggle. The Philippines hosted its 5th International Assembly last November 14-16, with the theme, "For a Socially Just World, Strengthen the Peoples’ Solidarity and Intensify the Struggle Against Imperialist Plunder, Crisis and War!” ILPS is the biggest alliance of anti-imperialist organizations worldwide. You can read more about ILPS here.
Since people don't mind, I wore shorts. If you have been reading this blog for a while you'll know that I don't really like jeans. Many comrades are wearing activism/campaign shirts. I chose to wear a blazer because I was explaining our exhibit, the Free Our Sisters, Free Ourselves campaign to free all women political prisoners. All these women are organizers or NDFP consultants that are protected by Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) yet they are all illegally arrested and detained. Most of them faces trumped up charges like homicide, murder, frustrated murder, illegal possession of firearms and explosives. Up to 15(!!!) cases had been filed against them, and some of them are facing 5 life sentences, just because of their principles and political views.

The ILPS delegates also did a candle lighting activity for the victims and survivors of Paris and Beirut attacks. I was silent on social media for the past few days because I can't find the time to go online anymore. I usually post statements of my GABRIELA and BAYAN contingent, not my own thoughts. I'd really rather be an activist in person, than be an online persona who isn't doing anything in real life. But because of ILPS I realized that we are all fighting against the same thing. All over the world, the people's movements are growing, citizens are taking these issues to the streets, demanding justice and abolishment of anti-people policies and agreements. I detested the move by Facebook--the option of changing of profile photos filter with France's flag, because it strengthened the imperialist's mindset that Western lives are much more valuable than the lives of people in Syria, Beirut, Palestine, Kurdistan, and many others. If it's wrong to kill innocent people in Paris, then it is wrong to kill innocent people ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. Paris bombed Syria after the attack, thankfully, no one died for they bombed abandoned ISIL bases in Raqqa. It all comes down to this systematized violence that killed thousands of people and displaced a million more. Violence because of imperialism, disguised as peace operations, to get the resources of another country for profit. Never mind the death toll rising. I will never understand how all these leaders are so merciless, they are willing to sacrifice all these lives for money.
So what about you? What will you wear to a congregation like this? You can comment below!
